World Environment Day 2026

On Friday 5th June, we celebrated World Environment Day. Our Green Ambassadors helped transport bags of pre-loved clothing from the playground to the collection area, supporting textile recycling efforts. The children learned about the environmental impact of clothing waste and how recycling garments helps reduce landfill waste, conserve resources, and lower carbon emissions. 460kg of clothes were collected and £207.90 was raised for the school  - thanks everyone!

Year 4 have been busy developing their Green Schools Project. They enjoyed sharing their ideas with the school community and discussing ways to reduce our school's carbon footprint during assembly last week.

Meat-Free Mondays launched on Monday 9th June. Following an interview with our school chef, the children will design posters to promote the initiative and create a survey to gather ideas for future meat-free menu options. They will also encourage packed lunches to be meat-free on Mondays so all children and staff can be involved.

Another group will begin weighing food waste each day to help identify ways to reduce waste and lower carbon emissions. If we manage to meet our goal the children will receive a special treat at the end of the year.

Some children from 4 Pine have formed a new group called the Power Rangers. From Monday, they will visit each classroom at lunchtime to check that lights and computer screens have been switched off to help save energy. The class that consistently remembers to do this and achieves the highest score each half term will receive a special prize.

Well done to our Year 4 children for their outstanding creativity and thoughtful suggestions on how to reduce the school's carbon footprint. They have shown great initiative in helping to make our school more sustainable.
